Anies Baswedan to Announce Vice Presidential Candidate Soon, Says Democratic Party

Sudirman Said conveyed the presidential candidate (candidate) Anies Baswedan has determined the name of the vice-presidential candidate (cawapres). The Democratic Party requested that Anies immediately announce his partner.

Deputy Bappilu DPP DPP, Kamhar Lakumani, stated that Sudirman Said’s statement was in accordance with the aspirations of the Democrats who wanted a vice presidential candidate this June.

“This is important in order to have the right momentum and adequate time to catch up and turn things around. Once announced, the party’s political machine, legislative candidates, volunteers and sympathizers will optimally work for victory,” Kamhar told reporters, Saturday (10/6/ 2023).

According to him, Sudirman Said’s statement clarified accusations from parties that the Democrat Party was forcing its will for its general chairman, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) to become vice presidential candidate.

“Even though on various occasions it has been emphasized that the names included in the Bacawapres exchange were discussed referring to the five criteria agreed upon in the Three-Party Cooperation Charter, looking for the best one to realize a joint victory. That could be anyone. The Democratic Party is rational and objective, ” he said.

“But don’t let any party take the attitude ‘as long as it’s not AHY’, this is an inappropriate attitude in a partnership built on the principle of equality,” he said.

Kamhar also asked Anies to immediately announce the name already in his pocket. “This is already in Mas Anies’ pocket. We hope that it will be announced soon,” he said.

The name of the vice president is already in Anies’ pocket

The spokesperson for Anies Baswedan’s presidential candidate, Sudirman Said, said that Anies had finished choosing his vice presidential candidate. Anies, he said, was waiting for an auspicious day to announce it.

“Currently the sorting and selecting process has been completed. We are just waiting for a good day for Pak Anies to make a decision and make an announcement,” Sudirman told reporters, Saturday (10/6).

He said that no one was forcing Anies in determining the candidate for vice president. He said NasDem, PKS, and Democrats had both proposed names to Anies.

“No one party forced it. All had the opportunity to propose names. The NasDem Party proposed several names, PKS proposed several figures, both cadres and non-cadres. Likewise the Democratic Party proposed a number of figures, both internal and external to the party,” he said.
