Angoulême: Castorama employees on strike against lower premiums

A profit-sharing bonus divided by four. And angry employees.

As expected, Castorama employees are mobilizing this Monday to denounce what they describe as a “heist” of their profit-sharing bonus. They are about forty to go on strike and the store only works today with temporary and seasonal workers.

The reason for their anger: a clear decrease in their incentive bonus. Previously, they received 2.4 months of salary, or about 3600 €. But with the modification of the agreement previously in force, this bonus now amounts to 0.6 months of salary… or around 900 €, for the inter-union. This represents a “shortfall of € 2,700 on average” over the year.

Because for 2020, the premium is no longer calculated on the basis of the annual payroll but… quarterly. Which mechanically divides the amount of profit-sharing by four. “The unions that signed (the CFDT and the CFTC) did not see that the word ‘annual’ had been replaced by ‘quarterly'”, lament employees of the Angoulême store. A “mistake“which would therefore be expensive.

“At Castorama, we are at Smic and these bonuses are what allows us to repay our credits…”, says 23-year-old young worker Bryan“We are very big losers!”

“In addition, we took risks during the Covid by coming to the store, there were a lot of orders from customers. And we did everything to develop the figure”adds an employee. The union organizations must decide during the day whether to continue the strike movement.

In a press release issued on Monday morning, the management of Castorama indicates that “despite the very high uncertainty that surrounds the coming months, we were able to pay an increasing incentive: in the second quarter it was three times higher than in the second quarter 2019 and up 51% over the half. “

For the secretary of the CSE of the Anoumois store Cathy Coletta: “It’s proof that the figures are good, but they still block us at 0.6 months of salary!” she laments. “Despite good results, they don’t want to pay us more.”
