For the 2000th match in the history of FC Nantes in the first division, the Canaries failed to get rid of Angers despite a clear domination. Antoine Kombouaré’s men are now six points from European places and are gradually falling into line.
The outcome of the match could not have been written differently. True to form, FC Nantes failed to win in an anniversary match despite clearly dominating the game (24 shots – 60% ball possession) and many interesting offensive moves.
In the first act, the people of Nantes were surprised by a nice action from Angevin. Well found full axis, Sofiane Boufal escaped the vigilance of Jean-Charles Castelletto before mystifying Alban Lafont with a sumptuous stung ball (1-0, 18th). Nantes for their part pushed but came up against a stratospheric Anthony Mandrea who deprived the Canaries of a river score to their advantage. The Angevin goalkeeper released exceptional parades, in particular twice in front of Ludovic Blas (26th, 45th) and Nicolas Pallois (34th).
The revenge of Kalifa Coulibaly
Again aligned at the forefront of the attack after the victory at Clermont (3-2) two weeks ago, Kalifa Coulibaly equalized in the second half with a header on an excellent service from Fabio (53rd). The Malian striker has thus offered his first goal since the one against Strasbourg at the beginning of last November. Interesting in his game with his back to goal, Coulibaly could even have offered himself a double with more precision from the head (56th).
After the equalizer, the Canaries pushed to snatch victory. Without success since they either lacked precision in the last gesture, or again stumbled on Mandrea, imperial against Kolo Muani (67th). Another downside, Pedro Chirivella and Fabio are out through injury and less than a month from the Coupe de France final, there is cause for concern.
