FC Dordrecht coach Michele Santoni is furious after ‘s 2-2 draw FC Dordrecht visiting The County† Referee Joey Kooij gave a penalty in the final phase for a meaningless situation in the Dordrecht penalty area.
De Graafschap defender Ted van de Pavert went to the ground after a duel with Ruggero Mannes. To the surprise of everyone and everyone at Dordrecht, Kooij put the ball on the spot. Santoni is furious after the final whistle. “Look… I know him from Frank de Boer… I think he’s a very mediocre referee and I said that to him,” Santoni told ESPN. “I have heard from the KNVB that it is an international top talent. I advised him to stop and start paddling.”
Santoni is pissed. Especially because his team managed to turn a 1-0 deficit in the second half into a 1-2 lead by two goals from Jacky Donkor. “The games have to be determined by the players. Again: if De Graafschap deserved to make the 3-0 in the first half, I can live with it, that means I have to work harder with my team. This is of no use to me. I can difficult to say to the KNVB: go and train the referees better.”
Kooij did not want to appear in front of the camera afterwards to explain his decision.
