The presenter also has an “important voice” that she sometimes sets when she wants something done. “Even in New York, where they don’t know me, that sometimes works”, the sixties confesses. “I lower my voice then, apparently they think I am someone. In one way or another we always get a good table. My daughters often ask me to do that.”

Groothuizen also said that she is very sober in life. Even when the AVRO suddenly threw her out, after 15 years of loyal service, she did not hold a grudge. “I was the only one who scored, and it was just before Christmas. But they wanted to renew and rejuvenate. I was replaced by Karel van der Graaf, who was ten years older. That’s how it goes in the Netherlands: as a woman you are very fast too old, as a man you can go on for years. “

The singer was even in financial uncertainty due to the dismissal at the AVRO. “We had just moved, so my jar was gone,” she says. “Then I quickly started singing again. You always have to take responsibility and not hold a grudge or resentment. It doesn’t matter if something is your fault or not. Just think: this happens to me now, how do I deal with it.”

Groothuizen does not have the illusion that she will change the world with her songs and programs. “I am not able to do that on my own. But I do hope that I do things that inspire people and offer them hope. That I can let people be part of something happier, or something that can inspire better deeds.”
