Ángel Moldes wins the Mayor of Poio for the PP party and puts an end to three decades of nationalist government – Election results and reaction from other candidates

There was already a lot of talk in previous weeks about a possible “override” of the PSdeG, Gregorio Agís at the head of the list and replacing Chelo Besada, who retired from politics last year 2022. He is accompanied as number two by the independent Silvia Díaz, who in the previous 2019 elections had run with Avante Poio. With this candidacy the socialists gained one more councilor.

For her part, Marga Caldas, who has taken over in the BNG from the mayor of the city council for 28 years, Luciano Sobral, has lost two councilors, a result that puts an end to almost three decades of nationalist government.

In this way, the new local government of Poio, made up of 17 councillors, remains as follows: PP with 10 councillors, PsdeG with 4 and BNG with 3. For its part, the fourth list that was presented this year, that of Movement for Poio, headed by Borja Burgos Agís, does not achieve any councilor.

It must be remembered that in 2019 a tripartite was formed with BNG (5 councilors), PSdeG (3 councilors) and Avante Poio (1 councilor). The PP had achieved 8, so despite Ángel Moldes being the candidate with the most votes, he could not govern.
