Anecdote – Why does Porsche use the term “turbo” on the Taycan?

During the presentation of the new Porsche Taycan – available in 3 versions (4S, Turbo & Turbo S), the term “turbo” is used for the two most powerful models whereas it is an electric car without turbo . But then why use the term turbo? Here is the official reason!

When we talk about the terms “Porsche Turbo”, we immediately think of the first Porsche 911 Turbo type 930 that appeared in 1974 at the Paris Motor Show, paving the way for other powerful models.

The term “Turbo” has a long tradition at Porsche, referring to the models with a turbo and long remained the most powerful at the top of their range. The term Turbo also refers to performance, speed, excellence. For Porsche, the term Turbo is a promise to remain the premium version and to pay tribute to the brand’s heritage. This is still the case with the Taycan which continues this long tradition of sporty and powerful vehicles despite being a fully electric model.
