Andries Jonker expresses concern over training conditions ahead of Women’s World Cup debut against Portugal

Andries Jonker’s team make their debut in the Women’s World Cup against Portugal on Sunday

Andries Jonker, Dutch women’s football coach, showed himself, two days before the debut in the 2023 Mundial against Portugal (Sunday, at 8:30 am), worried about the conditions in which his team has been training in recent days – on a cricket pitch -, stressing that these are conducive to injuries.

“When we arrived on Wednesday, I thought: ‘What is this? We are not going to train here…’ Of course we raised concerns about the cricket ground, we were promised something else and we are disappointed and angry. We are not satisfied”, he began by referring to journalists, quoted by ‘The Independent’.

And he continued: “We want to play a good first game against Portugal and we want to be prepared in the best way. This is a top tournament and we also consider ourselves a top team. This doesn’t fit [com a nossa ambição]. It’s amateurism at the highest level. If the players fall [neste relvado] with the knee or with the shoulder, they may have problems. If we ‘sprint’ on grass and then come to this field, it’s not good for the muscles or the tendons”, she concluded.

It should be remembered that the Netherlands will debut in the Women’s World Cup on Sunday, at 8:30 am, against Portugal, in what will also be the first game of the National Team in the competition.
