Musical comedy Bad Cinderella by Andrew Lloyd Webber will drop the curtain in New York on June 4. The show will have given only 33 previews and 85 performances.
Bad Cinderella is a revisit of the tale Cinderella. The show had also not found success in London where its performances had been hugely affected by the COVID 19 pandemic. While UK reviews were mostly positive – I myself had found the show to be quite successful – the show did not rain at all on the other side of the Atlantic.
The show was not nominated in any category at the 2023 Tony Awards earlier this month and ticket sales were plummeting.
When Bad Cinderella will close, it will be the first time since 1979 that there will not be an Andrew Lloyd Webber show playing in a Broadway theater, The Phantom of the Opera having also recently lowered the curtain.
