The boss prepares pots behind bars

The chef’s lawyer filed a motion to release his client before his sentence expired

Andre Tokev wants to be released from prison in Kazichene, Bulgaria Today has learned from its sources in court.

The culinary master has applied for parole, as half of his sentence has already expired, and he is still an exemplary prisoner.

The pandits behind bars on a light regime in Kazichene have just started to get used to the great taste of Tokev’s dishes, and the chef does not intend to stay there longer than necessary. Five months have passed since his sentence and the chef wants to get out of there a minute sooner. It is difficult to run a restaurant behind bars.

Tokev has been in the gang for a little over 5 months, and his sentence is 10. He works every day, because there are no breaks in the prison, the pandits can not be left without food. If you work in prison, whether inside, like Tokev in the kitchen, or on outdoor sites, 2 days spent count as 3.

The chef did not cause any problems, he worked hard and for some time he put on his hat and rolled up his sleeves in the kitchen. The Sofia City Court will consider Tokev’s application as soon as possible, and the chance for the chef to be released is quite high.

Even if he is not released by Kazichene, Tokev will be released in no more than two months because he works hard and is a prisoner by example.

The boss has been active in the prison kitchen for some time, but his work there is no easier than in his prestigious restaurants in downtown Sofia.

The boss has to be extremely careful, because the faces of the inmates are in line with their health.

Prisoners receive their daily portion, divided into three parts – breakfast, lunch, including soup, main course and dessert, and dinner of meal and dessert. The food is divided into 5 groups, according to the health of the imprisoned bandits and preferences whether they are vegetarians or not. Thus, the five groups that both Tokev and the leadership of Kazichene must take into account are common, ulcerative, diabetic, liver and carbohydrate. Each serving for the prisoners is about 300 grams, and the dessert is 150 g. Sometimes on Fridays the prisoners are not happy to eat a place, but certainly Tokev prepares great vegetarian delicacies for them – such as ratatouille. However, the professional chef is a great connoisseur of French cuisine. Undoubtedly, the prisoners have become her admirers, but she is not just anyone in the kitchen.

Tokev has been in prison for several months. The chef found himself behind bars after being caught driving drunk, with flat tires (there were almost no wheels left on some of the wheels) and had crashed on the Sofia Ring Road.

The top cook was arrested on October 31 after signals from citizens on tel. 112 for a pickup truck on rims, which meanders dangerously on the Sofia Ring Road. As they approached the white jeep, the uniformed officers noticed that three of the car’s tires were flat and one was even missing. Footage slipped through the media showing Tokev driving nearly a kilometer on rims alone, and finally one caught fire.

The chef managed to reach an agreement with the District Prosecutor’s Office and received seven months in prison, a fine of BGN 450 and his book was confiscated for a year and a half. To this punishment is added the chef’s previous suspended sentence of three months in prison, which must also be served effectively. Thus, his total sentence is ten months, but Tokev will remain behind bars for a maximum of eight, as he will be deducted from the two months he was under house arrest.

Tokev bitterly regretted his actions, but apparently several months behind bars made him learn a lesson and now he wants to go out.

The chef’s lawyer filed the application yesterday and we will soon find out whether the magistrates will release Tokev from the coup.

Off the menu

A few years ago, the Ministry of Justice decided that the fasting menu in prison would be optional. Prisoners who are vegan for one reason or another will be able to choose whether to eat the classic food offered by the prison kitchen or order something “off the menu” that does not contain meat.

It also turned out that many of the prisoners are pious and fast, or there are those who prefer to eat only vegetables and fruits. Pandits may even have special preferences such as high-carbohydrate foods, chicken, beef and pork. They can also eat a menu of potatoes and rice, more fruit or emphasize vegetables.

Until a few years ago, prisoners were fed on average BGN 3.20 per person per day, but after a while it became clear that it would not be so cheap and a little more money was allocated for hungry pandits.
