Andorra continues to advance in its candidacy to host the Alpine Skiing World Championships in 2027. The candidacy continues to take firm steps in its promotion and consolidation with an eye toward next May, the date on which the International Ski Federation (FIS ) will announce the venue for the event.

The test will have a budget of more than 40 million euros that will be recovered in television and marketing rights and will have no cost to the public coffers of the Pyrenean country.

In this context, the general director of the project, David Hidalgo, the marketing director, Elisabeth Pérez and the career director, Santi López today presented in Barcelona the main axes of the candidacy and the communication campaign that will be announced in Andorra, but also in neighboring countries.

The event, if held, will last sixteen days, which will count with the participation of more than 750 skiers from seventy countries, which involves more than a thousand communication professionals and that is broadcast live to the whole world through more than a hundred television channels. To establish a comparison, the World Cup finals, the last international milestone organized by Grandvalira and which will be repeated in 2023, lasts one week, mobilizes 230 skiers from nineteen countries and is broadcast live on 38 television channels .

In addition, as the general director of the Andorra 2027 candidacy, David Hidalgo, has recalled, “the budget to organize the World Championships comes from the marketing and television rights of the FIS”, therefore, if Andorra is finally becomes the chosen headquarters, it will not entail any public cost for the country.

The organization of some World Championships, the most prestigious and relevant alpine skiing event, would mean for Andorra the culmination of more than fifteen years of experience in holding major ski competitions. The path began in 2006 with the presentation of the first candidacy to hold a World Cup event in Andorra. Along the way, European Cup events, World Cup events, European Cup Finals, and World Cup Finals have taken place.

Along these lines, under the motto of It’s time to relight the stars, the campaign presented wants to capture a message of union and mobilize the population, to reposition Andorra and the Pyrenees as a benchmark for alpine skiing and snow tourism. The campaign has been launched through the media and social networks, both in Andorra and in local markets (Spain, France and Portugal). It will also be released digitally in European markets such as Ireland, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.
