And three new drive-in theaters

St. Pölten, Kitzbühel and Lech open “Drive In halls”, including the “highest in the Alps”.

Meanwhile, the drive-in theaters are shooting like mushrooms. The latest additions: St. Pölten, Kitzbühel and Lech am Arlberg. Although it is a little unfair to call the one in Kitzbühel new: In the past seven years the Kitzbühel film festival has installed a drive-in cinema at the Hahnenkamm parking lot on two evenings.

Now it is the first to start in Tyrol, and it will be this coming weekend: From May 22nd to “at least” June 20th, films will be shown here on Thursdays to Saturdays, in addition to “latest cinema hits”, classics and entertainment for everyone Family. On two Saturdays in June, Fesitval organizer Michael Reisch hosts two local heroes: “Bergdoktor” Hans Sigl and Gregor Bloéb. Before the two public holidays in June (Whit Monday and Corpus Christi) there are also performances on Sunday and Wednesday. Tickets can only be purchased online (www.ffkb.at).

The winter sports stronghold Lech am Arlberg, in turn, opens up “probably the highest drive-in cinema in the Alps”. From July 17 to August 15, drive-in cinemas will be offered in the 1450-meter-high town on the weekends. It is set up in the Schlosskopf car park and the sound is transmitted via the car radio. The program is still being developed, says tourism director Hermann Fercher.

The “Auto Art Cinema” in St. Pölten, on the other hand, should not only serve the cinema, but also concerts and other live acts. The aim is to give local and regional artists from Lower Austria a platform, says Rene Voak, operator of the VAZ event center, on whose premises the cinema opens. Together with the Hollywood Megaplex Cinema, from May 29th to June 14th, two films will be shown in two “Open Air Cinemas” per game day, and from Friday to Sunday there will be a themed live program item. Is paid per car (19.90 for films, www.megaplex.at). Also in Vienna / Groß Enzersdorf, Wr. Neustadt, Linz, Salzburg and Innsbruck have drive-in cinemas.
