Windows 10 recently celebrated its fifth anniversary on the market, but the operating system still needs improvement. This is exactly what Microsoft offers with build 20190 for the Dev channel of the Windows Insider program. This means that the new features described here are not yet precisely planned for a future update of the OS, they are simply being tested before entering the beta of an update.

Finally a description of the updates

For the general public, this is a very interesting novelty offered by Microsoft, which we would have liked to see land much earlier. Build 20190 includes for the first time a presentation of the new features brought by a system update. Until now, Windows 10 users could be entitled to major, potentially cumbersome, slow-to-download updates, without noting all the changes that were made that might be of interest to them.

This new feature is only available for English language users, but future builds should provide support for other languages. To manage the display of this new module, go to the Windows 10 system settings, then check or uncheck “Show me the Windows welcome experience“In the” notifications and actions “section.

Select your graphics processor app by app

For gamers and content creators, Microsoft has another novelty in stock in this build 20190. It is now possible to select which graphics processor (GPU) to use by default for greedy applications, but also to choose individually for each application. This is particularly important on portable PCs which generally integrate two graphics processors: a first not very efficient and consuming little which is integrated into the processor, and a second dedicated to heavy tasks. The problem is that some software or games can force the use of the integrated processor when you want to use the dedicated chip and obtain more performance.

With this option, no more games or creative software that do not use the right graphics chip for their tasks. We can now make sure to get the best possible performance, or on the contrary never to consume too much energy with the selected application. The option is set in the graphics settings which are either in the Display settings part of Windows 10, or in the game part.

Two new features that we are now impatiently awaiting in the Windows Insider beta channel. This will determine when they will be offered to the general public.
