Liverpool FC issued a joint statement in cooperation with the City Council and Merseyside Police, and the celebrations after the team officially crowned the Premier League title 2019-2020 season were described as unacceptable behavior.
A large number of Liverpool fans took to the city streets to celebrate the “Premier League” coronation after Manchester City lost 2-1 to Chelsea in the Premier League match 31.
The title is the first club for Liverpool in 30 years and 19 in the history of the club.
In its joint statement with the police and the city council, the club said that throughout the past week, there was work to constantly remind people that the city was still affected by the Corona virus epidemic (Covid-19), and asked fans to celebrate winning the title safely.
The statement pointed out that several thousand fans gathered, and some chose to ignore the guidelines for social separation, which made there a risk to public safety.
The statement stressed that the city is still living in a public health crisis and therefore this behavior is totally unacceptable.
The statement stressed that the danger still exists regarding a second wave of (Covid-19) and that work must be done together to ensure that there is no retreat from everything that was achieved during the closure period.
The joint statement between Liverpool Club, City Council and Merseyside Police concluded that everyone will work for the “victory procession” when the opportunity is right for everyone to gather in one place for the celebration, but until the right time comes, the safety of Liverpool is a top priority.
