An intellectual forum … and three critical presentations and seminars

Kalba: “The Gulf”

Yesterday, Saturday, the activities of the ninth session of the “Short Plays Festival”, organized by the theatrical department of the Department of Culture, continued and its activities will take place in the cultural center of the city of Kalba. On the third day of the festival, in the morning period, he attended the proceedings of the intellectual forum organized at the Kalba Cultural Center, entitled “The characteristics of dramatic performance in short works”. In the forum, which was presented in two sessions, the participants discussed questions about the unique features of the actor’s work in the short performances, as they are characterized by intensity and reduction of elements, such as dialogue, decoration and movement, as well as whether the shortening of the show is deduced from the size of the role played by the actor, and whether the actor’s performance varies according to the size of the play (short or long), and which one is better to train and refine the actor: short comedies or long?

In the first session moderated by Wafaa Issa (Jordan), the first speech was by the actress and writer Haya Al-Saeed (Kuwait), who confirmed in her speech that every work, long or short, imposes a specific method in the its incarnation by the actor, for the structural nature of the text of the show, or for the method adopted by its director, or for the location of the show; Wood or open space. Al-Saeed linked the strength of performance, presence and glow on stage in any theatrical form, to the actor’s abilities, not to the size of the role or the length of the show in which she participates.

For his part, Bouchaib Al-Sammak (Morocco), who presented the second article, said that the actor’s performance does not differ, whether the play is short or long, because the tools with which the actor will work remain the same, but the brevity or duration of the show can influence the actor’s creative space, which can be reduced within the short theatrical performance, so that the concepts of intensity and reduction are also present in its performance.

details

Hussam Abdul Karim (Iraq) presented the third speech in the first session, and suggested a division through which he distinguished between acting in long and short plays, noting that the latter is related to amateur work and academic exercises, while the actor must be a professional to perform in a long comedy. Abdul Karim examined a number of concepts about the actor’s art and the role of exercises, reading and perseverance in his development.

In the second session of the forum, moderated by the artist Zina Zhafif (Syria), the approved director Al-Manasir (Jordan) intervened first, indicating that he adopted the opinion that the size and impact of the representative role are determined by on the one hand from the actor’s card, and on the other hand from the director’s plan to formulate his presentation, and the difference In the diagnosis of long and short plays, it is not qualitative, and is related to details such as brevity, time, and the rhythm In this sense, a long play may seem short if the actor’s rhythm is dynamic, and vice versa.

In her article, researcher Ghada Abu Warda (Egypt) presented an expanded idea of theatrical acting techniques, particularly those that focus on the psychological dimensions of the way the actor works, underlining the importance that the actor intensify your exercises and deepen your readings, to perfectly play your role in various styles, performances and in all theatrical genres.
