an “incomprehensible” decision for the sector representative

Following the announcement on Tuesday evening, the sector representative, Coiffure.org, regrets the government’s decision not to make it compulsory (subject to compensation) to close hairdressing salons in Belgium. “At a press conference on national television this evening, the Security Council announced that tougher measures would be taken for the Belgian population in the fight against the Corona virus. One of these measures is that everyone has to stay at home, unless it is an inevitable trip, but this does not apply to the hairdressing sector. A decision that we, as a federation, do not understand at all “, can we read in a press release.

“Earlier in the evening, Minister Maggie De Block (Open VLD) talked about even tougher measures because it was necessary for our health, a crucial time for public health. It is important that we keep at least one meter and a half of distance between us and that we have 10 square meters of space per person in the stores from tomorrow afternoon. In our profession, we cannot keep such distances and it is therefore worrying that the government still don’t realize it “. The sector representative also mentioned the pressures from certain customers: “What is even more worrying is that clients do not see the seriousness of the case and that many reports come from hairdressers who are under strong pressure from their clients. People do not want to cancel their appointment, they still expect to be able to come as planned and, due to the measures taken by the government, they expect a hairdresser who still provides the same service as before “.

For the sector, a firmer decision must be made: “From a mental point of view, this measure is particularly difficult for hairdressers because they have to choose, so to speak, between the plague or the crown, to close without compensation or to open with great risks for the health of their customers , their employees and especially themselves. A very contradictory decision by our federal government that we will continue to contradict day after day. The health of the hairdresser and the entire sector is a priority and that is why we are going to a once again increase the pressure with our partners Unizo and UCM to convince the government that this situation is no longer tenable. ”
