UPDATE: The Ministry of Finance said on Wednesday that “an error of forced expression appeared in the budget report” published on the institution’s website and that it has been corrected.
“An inadvertent spelling error appeared in the transparently published budget report. I have resolved the situation. Thank you for pointing it out to us,” the finance ministry told reporters.
The original news: An official document from the Ministry of Finance, published on the institution’s website on Tuesday, includes the phrase “special operation in Ukraine,” referring to the invasion of Russia. The phrase appears in the macroeconomic forecast report for 2023, as noted by TVR reporter Alina Grigore in a Facebook post.
The phrase used in the Finance Ministry document is one used by official Russian state propaganda to avoid using the terms “war” or “invasion” while the rest of the world talks about Russia’s war on Ukraine.
It should be noted that other wordings appear in the document, such as “Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.”
