An easyJet plane was intercepted by a Spanish fighter due to a false bomb alert

Sunday afternoon a plane of the British company easyJet was intercepted in flight from a Spanish Air Force fighter after a passenger posted a bomb alert on social media, which turned out to be false.

The plane had departed from Gatwick Airport in London and was bound for Menorca, in the Balearics, in Spain. In videos posted online by several passengers, the fighter is seen alongside the plane in the Spanish skies, and escorted to its destination airport. Once it landed, the Spanish authorities detained the passengers on board for about 4 hours and made all the necessary checks to check if there really was a bomb. Eventually the threat turned out to be false, and the passenger who raised the alarm (an 18-year-old British man) was arrested.
