This Wednesday, July 22, the number of new contaminations continues to increase in Belgium. The Sciensano Institute announced an average of 184.3 new cases of Covid-19s recorded over a period of one week, between July 12 and 18, i.e. an increase of 89% compared to the previous period.
The total number of cases in Belgium is 64.258 is 164 new contaminations compared to the last assessment. A slightly lower number than in recent days, but which is linked to the “weekend effect”: are mainly recorded on Tuesday and communicated on Wednesday the figures for Saturday and Sunday. If we compare it to the figures usually released on Wednesday, it is a much larger increase than the other weeks (91 July 15, 65 July 8).
There is also a total 18,001 people hospitalized because of the coronavirus since the start of the epidemic, i.e. 5 more compared to the last assessment. But this figure may still need to be updated.
This Thursday a National Security Council should take place. It was supposed to act on phase 5 of deconfinement, but a consultation committee that took place on Tuesday has already decided that we will remain in phase 4. In addition, reinforced measures should be taken.
