  • The decision to establish the team was made on July 28 this year. in Katowice, during a meeting of trade unionists with the management board of PGG and the deputy prime minister, head of the Ministry of State Assets Jacek Sasin.
  • A team with the participation of government representatives and trade unions, whose task will be to develop a program for the mining industry, will inaugurate substantive works on Tuesday, August 11, in Warsaw.
  • The work of the team is to be chaired by Jacek Sasin, who announced that scientists – experts recognized in the mining industry, as well as representatives of ministries whose activities and regulations have an impact on the mining sector will be “invited” to it.

The decision to establish the team was made on July 28 this year. in Katowice, during a meeting of trade unionists with the management board of PGG and the deputy prime minister, head of the Ministry of State Assets Jacek Sasin.

Then, during the meeting in Katowice, a recovery plan for PGG was to be presented, prepared by the management board of this largest coal company. He assumed, inter alia, closure of the Wujek and Ruda mines, shelters for miners leaving their jobs, suspension of the so-called fourteenth salary and a linkage of 30 percent. miners’ salaries with work efficiency. Ultimately, the program was not presented due to public opposition.

After subsequent meetings, it was announced that the team with the participation of government representatives and trade unions, whose task will be to develop a program for the mining industry, will inaugurate substantive works on Tuesday, August 11, in Warsaw. The work of the team is to be chaired by the head of MAP, Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin, who announced that scientists – experts recognized in the mining industry, as well as representatives of ministries whose activities and regulations have an impact on the mining sector, will be “invited” to him.

In a letter sent to PAP on Sunday that day, the head of the Silesian PO called on Minister Sasin to further expand the group of participants in the work on the program for the industry. Saługa wrote, among other things, that the planned closure of mines, liquidation of thousands of jobs and reduction of coal mining will have a huge impact on the socio-economic situation in the province. Silesia.

“Permanent transformation of this part of the economy of our region will have + along the way + a number of unpredictable consequences for enterprises, local governments, and especially tens of thousands of inhabitants living today thanks to the work of mines” – said the chairman of the Silesian Civic Platform region and the former marshal of the voivodeship Silesia.

“The proposed mining transformation team should work out its principles to ensure the broadest possible consensus, social peace, as well as the interests of local governments and entrepreneurs operating in the industry’s environment. That is why we demand that parliamentarians of all political options present in the region be invited to the team’s work, and not only selected politicians of your party “- he turned to Sasin Saług.

“It also seems necessary to invite local government officials from the areas where the mines operate, because they will ultimately have to deal with the undoubted problem of rising unemployment, failing companies and socio-demographic problems” – noted the leader of the Silesian PO.

Saługa thus became part of the earlier appeals of interested local government officials. On July 28, the authorities of Ruda Śląska issued a statement, in the context of the unofficial plan of the PGG authorities, which was liquidation of the Ruda mine this year (together with the Wujek mine in Katowice). The Ruda Mine, consisting of three previously connected mines: Bielszowice, Pokój and Halemba, employs approx. 6.5 thousand people. people and is the largest employer in this city with approx. 130 thousand inhabitants.

As the local government authorities of Ruda Śląska wrote at the end of July, similarly to the social side, they believe that decisions about closing two mines cannot be made without developing a transformation program for the entire region. They also expressed the expectation that, apart from trade unions operating in PGG, local governments would be invited to talks on this matter, and they would have to deal with the social consequences of PGG restructuring.
