an aperitif at the windows to “fight” the confinement

“Toast like a normal Friday” : on March 20, a few days after the start of confinement, French people organized an aperitif at their windows in several cities, in Paris or Toulouse, to “Fight the routine” of the isolation decided by the government to fight the coronavirus.

In France, the coronavirus epidemic has caused the death of 450 patients to date and led to the hospitalization of 5,226 patients.

After the now traditional applause that resonates at 8 p.m. all over France to thank the caregivers, on the front line against the epidemic, some neighbors stayed at their windows, a drink in hand.

Like in the Belleville district of Paris, where, beer in hand, Gaël, 35, father of a 3-year-old boy, wants to “Toast like a normal Friday evening”. “And even if it’s at my window and you have to speak a little louder, I want to continue the tradition”, he explains to Agence France-Presse, since 3e floor of his residence. According to him, these aperitifs can “Help fight the routine” containment and above all “Fight the virus as best we can”.

“Put a little balm in the heart”

In front of him, a DJ, John 26 years old “Mix” on his balcony. “I’m going to do this for an hour, it puts atmosphere in the whole residence”, says the young entrepreneur, a sign on his balcony “Caregivers, unarmed soldiers”.

DJ Day Win did not wait for the call to “The balcony party” of this Friday night for “Support caregivers” : it started on the first evening of confinement. Khadija says:

“We tried to see if people wanted it, now every night they ask him to play a little longer. “

“It brought us closer to the building opposite”, she says, who lives in complete confinement with her family because her daughter has a chronic illness. “We promised ourselves that we would have a huge drink at the end of the quarantine. “

In Toulouse, in several districts, such as that of Compans-Caffarelli and Les Minimes, many residents have also taken to the balcony, launching ” well done “ for healthcare staff.

As already several evenings, people who did not know each other exchange a few words. Like this senior, throwing to his young neighbor: “If you need books during confinement, don’t hesitate, I have lots in the garage”.

A few meters away, a granny goes out to applaud. ” You are fine ? Do you need anything ? “ asked a neighbor.
