Schumer was back in the spotlight this week for the first time in a while, because she is promoting her new series ‘Life & Beth’ on TV. However, the attention was not only on her new project, but also on her appearance. Several fans think that Amy looks unrecognizable, and that her face is very swollen.
“Thanks to everyone for all the input about my face,” the actress now responds with a sarcastic note on Instagram. “I have enjoyed feedback and deliberation about my appearance for over 20 years, like most women. Yes, you are right, I am indeed more swollen than usual. There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my life right now, but I’m okay.” Turns out Schumer suffered from endometriosis, a condition in which the lining of the uterus forms outside the uterus. This can cause a lot of pain, but also hormonal fluctuations.
“On the other hand, I also think that a woman should not make excuses for her appearance, and does not owe you an explanation,” she adds delicately. “But I want to take this opportunity to promote self-love and help others feel good about themselves.”
“I have had days where I would rather put a bag over my head,” she concludes. “But I feel strong and beautiful, and I’m very proud of the new TV show I created. And wrote. And acted in it. And directed. Maybe, just maybe, we can just focus on that for a while?”
