Amsterdammer detained with six Albanians on a sailing boat

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee last night arrested a 65-year-old Amsterdammer on suspicion of human smuggling in Den Helder. He transported six Albanians in his sailing yacht. Which the Marechaussee reports on Facebook.

The sailing yacht caught the eye on a Coast Guard patrol ship, because it sailed in an unusual location and with the wrong lighting near Den Helder. At the subsequent check, the skipper said there were other people on board as well. He was ordered to sail to the port of Den Helder. There the six Albanians emerged, all of age.

Deported country

At other border checks by the Marechaussee, a 25-year-old Libyan and two Albanians aged 23 and 31 were also found yesterday in IJmuiden and in Hoek van Holland. All arrested migrants enter the immigration process, says the Marechaussee. This means that it is checked whether there is an asylum application, followed by deportation if necessary. The latter is probably with people from Albania, as the Netherlands considers it a safe country.

It was announced yesterday that investigative services from the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the UK have broken up a human trafficking network transferring migrants from Calais in France to Dover in Britain. Thereby Two people were also arrested in the Netherlands.

Twelve vehicles, ten motorized dinghies, 152 life jackets, a caravan, jewelery, telephones and 48,000 euros in cash were seized. According to a spokesman for the Marechaussee, that case has nothing to do with today’s arrests.
