Amsterdam café has to close for a week after corona stunt with Wybren van Haga Amsterdam

A group of fifty supporters, together with Member of Parliament Wybren van Haga, remained seated after 5 p.m. in café Del Mondo in Amsterdam, as a protest against the corona restrictions. The cafe is immediately closed for a week.

Police stopped by the cafe to demand that they abide by the closing time. The employees did not respond. For that reason, the municipality has immediately decided to close the cafe for a week, says a spokesperson for Mayor Halsema.

About fifty supporters of the action were present at the cafe. The cafe does not seem to have checked the QR codes required in the catering industry.

Pawn owner and Member of Parliament Wybren van Haga seemed satisfied with the action. After five he was drinking beer on the terrace with his own cameraman in tow. “What a petty reaction from Mayor Halsem,” he responds. “What a lack of compassion for the catering industry that has been hit so hard. And what a pettiness to punish playful resistance, on the takeout terrace.”

The Belang van Nederland foreman is eagerly looking forward to March next year. “We can then fight this unworldly communist mayor with a few seats in the Amsterdam city council,” said Van Haga.

Criticism

A café owner of a neighboring catering establishment was not happy about the action: ,,You have to build a fence around these kinds of people. They are making the lockdown last even longer.”

At around 6.15 pm, cafe staff packed up their belongings and most of the people left. Van Haga was at the cafe to express support for the catering entrepreneurs on behalf of his party Belang van Nederland.
