AMLO will present reform to the pension system for state workers

I just want you to give us a little time, to get out of the economic crisis a little, because it will mean that we allocate more resources, but this is for teachers, for federal government workers.

“We are also going to present a reform in this sense for the benefit of workers at the service of the State, because this reform yesterday or the initiative that we are going to present for reform is for workers who have a working relationship with companies, those who have to do with Social Security, basically. ”

Yesterday, in the company of the business and worker sectors, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador presented a reform project to the pension system that aims to improve workers’ savings at the time of retirement, with which, he assured, not pensions are “nationalized”, as some supposed.

This reform will involve changes to the 1997 Retirement Savings System (SAR) regime, which, according to the federal government and the business sector, will benefit 48 million workers enrolled in an Afore.

The head of the Treasury, Arturo Herrera, explained that with the reform the workers will increase, on average, their pension by 40%, that is, “it is not a minor matter, it is a matter of radically changing the retirement conditions of the workers to have access to a fair withdrawal. “

He said that another change to the current system is that the initial limit for a worker to receive a guaranteed pension will drop from 24 years to approximately 14.4 years, that is, it will go from 1,250 weeks of contributions to 750 mandatory weeks.
