AMLO on Calderón’s government

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador considered that due to the protection it allegedly gave Genaro Garcia Luna al Sinaloa Cartel when he was Secretary of Public Security in the administration of Felipe Calderon it can be said that Mexico was a “narco-state.”

“There was even talk of a ‘narco-state’ and I sincerely thought at that time that it was not correct to classify the Mexican state in this way, but then with all this coming to light, well, if you can speak of a ‘narco-state’, because the government was taken over, those who were in charge of fighting crime were at the service of crime, they commanded crime, it was who decided who to pursue and who to protect.

At a press conference, the head of the federal Executive pointed out that there must be a dividing line between authority and crime, because “if we are not all unprotected, we are left in a defenseless state, we are in the hands of crime.”

“It is a matter that must continue to be dealt with without regard, without protecting anyone.”

In the National Palace, the president reported that he ordered Alfonso Durazo Montaño, secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), not to allow officials who have served during the period that García Luna was in charge of the secretariat, to continue working .

“Alfonso has instructions that people who have served during the time that García Luna was Secretary of Public Security not be allowed to work in the current government, because it is a really shameful matter for him to act as Secretary of Public Security for the federal government. and at the same time to protect one of the organized crime gangs, as is being shown, ”he added.
