Amilly Hospital is progressing with its expansion work

Expected for nearly ten years, the overhaul of the operating theaters and emergency rooms of the hospital in the greater Montargois area (Cham) progressing at its own pace, after its launch in September 2020.

In thirty years, from 15,000 to 65,000 passages over a year

A project more than necessary for the establishment inaugurated in 1989, faced with the inflation in the number of patients received in three decades. It has gone from 15,000 passages per year when it started to 65,000 today (all services included and excluding Covid).

Emergencies are particularly impacted by the inflation in the number of patients.

A phenomenon that can be explained by the addition of other medical buildings in Cham and desertification on the territory of liberal general practitioners, thus deporting patients from Montargis to hospital emergency rooms.
In one year, it took for the Cham (2,000 agents), all that without interruption of activity, move patients and entire departments in order to limit the inconvenience caused by the expansion work.

A 23 million euros project at Amilly hospital for emergencies and blocks

“Since September 2020, the services have been reorganized, a turret on the side of the hospital had to be destroyed. This will add a three-storey, L-shaped building of over 2,500 m².“, indicates Jean-Luc Davigo, general manager of the hospital.

End of work for October 2023

Arrived in 2019, the manager is satisfied with the progress of work scheduled for completion in October 2023.

“There will be a slight delay of three months, contrary to what was initially planned.”

The health situation and an unforeseen event, such as the temporary relocation of the Cham heliport to the Champfleuri football stadium, four kilometers away, in the town of Montargis, are involved in this delay.

The operating theaters, functional but aging, will be redesigned “in order to adapt to today’s needs”, comments the director. This facelift will include six operating rooms and two endoscopy rooms. In addition, the recovery room will have more space as well as the obstetrical unit. Regarding the emergency department, greatly impacted by the inflation of hospital visits, the redesign of the place and the renewal of the equipment will add “fluidity in the care of patients”.

Distinguish between the different patient journeys

“We lacked space in the emergency room and we had to reorganize clearer circuits. With a short course, a longer one and one for the elderly. This will also allow us to identify a circuit for pediatrics.”

Jean-Luc Davigo (Director of Cham)

A gain in synergy between the Cham sectors and time for health professionals. “In this period of Covid, not to mix the circuits between consultations, emergencies and hospitalizations, it is all the more important”.

22 million euros

This upgrading and expansion of operating theaters and emergencies amounts to just over 22 million euros (self-financing, bank loans and aid from the ARS). “We also recently requested assistance from the State in its Ségur health plan.“, adds Jean-Luc Davigo.
