American Maxwell, who has been living in Russia for several years, told on the YouTube channel “Open talk about Russia” that immediately after arriving in Russia in 2016, he was greatly surprised by the manner of work of the store employees.

Once a man entered a store late in the evening, a saleswoman with a phone was sitting at the checkout. The man laid out his purchases, began to smile, tried to look friendly. “She looked at me without a smile, as if I had prevented her from going shopping,” Maxwell said.

In the homeland of an American, store employees are always friendly, trying to help in every way. This is because the salaries of salespeople and managers depend on the number of clients served and the amount they will spend. In Russia, the approach is different: sellers try to distance themselves from buyers. Maxwell admitted that it shocked him at first. The American sees the reason for this in relation to money: Americans are absorbed in accumulation, while Russians take financial issues more easily.

Recall that earlier Maxwell talked about the surprise at how he was received in a Russian clinic after being injured. The man was examined for free, and in the United States, a foreigner without insurance could either be denied medical assistance or demand a considerable amount.
