American Mother Scammed $10,000 by Fake ‘Stranger Things’ Actor

An American mother, originally from Kentucky, explained that she was scammed out of 10,000 dollars (more than 9,000 euros) on the Internet by a man posing as Dacre Montgomery, the comedian who played the role of Billy in “Stranger Things”.

A fairly standard scam. The YouTube show “Catfished” – which focuses on victims of online scams – recently aired an episode about McKayla, a mother from Kentucky, USA who was scammed out of $10,000 (more of 9,000 euros) by a man posing as Dacre Montgomery, the actor who played the role of Billy Hargrove in seasons 2 and 3 of “Stranger Things».

Worse, she also left her husband (whom she describes as ‘toxic’), and father of her children, at the request of the one she thought was the actor, the latter swearing that it was the only way to that they can live their love story. McKayla also explains that the scammer had managed to make him believe that Dacre Montgomery was not happy in his relationship with supermodel Liv Pollock, with whom he has been in a relationship since 2017. And that the latter controlled all of his accounts banking.

The young woman ended up agreeing to send him a total of 10,000 dollars, in gift cards, in cryptocurrency, and via money transfer applications. A sum spread over several months. McKayla ended the show by explaining that she hopes the money helps the person in question. She also asks people who are quick to judge her gullibility to show compassion, specifying that she is aware of her vulnerabilities – such as fear of abandonment or the trauma caused by her past relationships – without her having succeeded in preventing this person from take advantage of it.
