American Football – From “Mr. Irrelevant” to Brady Conqueror: Quarterback Purdy – Sports

San Francisco (AP) – When Brock Purdy was selected by the San Francisco 49ers as the final football player in the NFL Draft, he immediately had a traditional title: “Mr. Irrelevant.” This “Mr. Insignificant” was making his NFL debut, against a team led by Tom Brady, who won their first Super Bowl when Purdy was a kid.

And what happened? Purdy scored a touchdown himself, threw the pass for two more, and gave the San Francisco 49ers a 35-7 win over Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is now the first quarterback in NFL history to make his first XI starting against a Brady team and not lose. All of this was possible because Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance are both injured and Purdy is now very important to the 49ers.

“It was unreal,” Purdy said of meeting Brady on the court after the game. “As a kid I’ve seen him do it in all the Super Bowls over the years and being able to high-five him now is pretty cool.”
