America returns to WHO… “I will pay over 200 million dollars by the end of this month”

Secretary of State Blincoln delivers a speech at the UN videoconference. yunhap news-US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln said on the 17th (local time) that the US will pay the World Health Organization (WHO) more than $200 million (200 billion won) by the end of this month.

“We are pleased to confirm that the United States will pay WHO more than $200 million by the end of this month,” Secretary Blincoln said in a videoconference with the UN Security Council.

“This is an important step towards fulfilling our fiscal obligations as a WHO member state,” he said. “It shows our new commitment to ensure that the WHO has the support it needs to lead the pandemic response.”

He added, “Every country should do its part and contribute to responding to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).”

The U.S. officially informed the WHO of withdrawal from the WHO in July of last year, while former President Donald Trump was in office. Withdrawal is possible one year after notification, but President Joe Biden announced his return to WHO on the day of his inauguration last month.

The Trump administration accused the WHO of being biased toward China in responding to Corona 19, and did not pay a share of $62 million last year. The voice of criticism was loud as the global village was groaning with Corona 19.
