America is the leader of the Opening; the Argentine Ibáñez of the scorers

Mexico, Sept. 18 The Águilas del América, who won the derby against Chivas de Guadalajara on Saturday, remain leaders of the Mexican soccer tournament Apertura 2022, in which Argentinian Nicolás Ibáñez, from Pachuca, is the top scorer.

With one day to play, America has 11 wins, two draws, three losses and 35 points, one more than Monterrey, four over Pachuca and five over Santos Laguna, the other teams in the qualifying zone headed for the quarter-finals.

América secured victory with the tenth goal from Mexican Henry Martín, sub-scorer, on a penalty, and Alejandro Zendejas, on a pass from Martín. For Chivas, Cristian Calderón is discounted.

The victory allowed the Eagles of Argentine coach Fernando Ortiz to continue ahead of Rayados de Monterrey, who on another Saturday beat the champion Atlas 2-0 and confirmed his collapse, with goals from Chilean Sebastián Vegas and Mexican Jesus Gallardo.

This Sunday Pachuca led San Luis 1-2 and Santos, 2-0 Juarez FC.

Argentinian Ibáñez remained alone as the scorer leader with 11 goals, one more than Henry Martín and Colombian Avilés Hurtado turned his third league goal, to lead Pachuca to victory over San Luis, which he served through the Uruguayan Abel Hernández, with eight goals in the tournament.

Santos won with goals from Colombian Harold Preciado and Argentine Marcelo Correa.

In other duels this Sunday, Cruz Azul beat the UNAM Pumas 1-2 and was confirmed in the play-off zone, as did Querétaro’s 3-1 winner León, while Necaxa drew 1-1 at Tijuana.

On Friday, Puebla beat Tigres 2-1 and Toluca drew 1-1 at the Mazatlán stadium, in the other games of the fifteenth day.

With matches on date 16 played in advance, the regular phase of the championship will end on date 17, from 30 September to 2 October next.
