AMD Ryzen 8000 Strix Point: Leaked Details on Next-Gen Mobile Processors

Company AMD manufactures two lines of mobile processors, one using a chiplet architecture with a CCD and I/O chiplet (Dragon Range) and the other as an APU, where everything is combined into a single chip (Phoenix). He is supposed to be the successor of Phoenix Ryzen 8000 with a label Strix Point and this series will further develop the hybrid processor concept. Unlike Intel, where the cores also differ in architecture, i.e. capabilities, frequencies and other properties, AMD should not have such fundamental differences. Both the classic cores with the Zen 5 architecture and the smaller Zen 5c are expected to retain the same instruction set and SMT support, the differences will be in details such as cache memory size and possibly frequency, although this is not certain. The latest leaks speak of the same measures.

Two screenshots were recently leaked (wccftech.com) from the CPU-Z and HWiNFO applications, which were supposed to refer to these Strix Point processors. Specifically, it was a 12-core processor that had 4 powerful P-Cores and 8 “saving” E-Cores. So it had a total of 12 cores, and since both AMD and E-Core support SMT, it handled 24 threads. Applications were a little confused by the new processors, but in principle both agreed that the processors would have 48 KB of data L1 cache and 32 KB of instruction L1 cache per core. However, CPU-Z only saw one basic core, where it also added information about a frequency of 3.0 GHz, while HWiNFO raved about frequencies of almost 9 GHz.

As for the L2 cache, we know that the P-Cores will have 1MB per core. The question is the E-Core (Zen 5c), where HWiNFO talked about a total of 2MB on all 8 cores, which would mean a small 256kB L2 cache per core. In the case of the L3 cache, CPU-Z claimed 16 MB, while HWiNFO claimed 8 MB. The processor was made with 4nm technology and had a TDP of 45W, which is a good value for a 12-core chip. We also know that the Strix Point should have RDNA 3.5 graphics with 8 WGP (16 CUs, 1024 stream processors), which should provide pretty solid graphics performance.
