Amazon enters the self-driving car business with the takeover of robot car developer Zoox. The companies announced a purchase agreement on Friday without disclosing the financial details. Amazon pays over a billion dollars, according to US media reports. Zoox is one of many start-ups working on technology and software for autonomous driving.
The deal would rate Zoox at less than the $ 3.2 billion the US robot taxi provider had generated in a round of financing in 2018, according to the Wall Street Journal. The shipping giant Amazon from Seattle recently increased its investments in the car sector and participated in a financing round for the autonomous driving start-up Aurora.
The aim of the company Zoos, founded in 2014, is to build up a robot taxi fleet. The world’s largest online retailer could benefit from such technology for future vans.
