Amazon starts development center for Scout delivery robot in Finland – Image and sound – News

Amazon is setting up a Scout Development Center in Helsinki, Finland. The company’s technicians are focusing there on developing software for the autonomous Scout delivery robot, in collaboration with British and German teams, among others.

The Amazon Scout Development Center in Helsinki will be developing 3D imaging software to simulate the “complexities of real life,” Amazon said. This should help the walking robot to avoid obstacles on the route of its delivery. The center will be assisted by Amazon’s existing Scout development teams in Seattle, Cambridge and Tübingen.

Amazon is looking, among other things software developers who want to work on the Scout robot. In total, around 24 technicians in Helsinki should be involved in the development. After the summer of last year, Amazon started a similar center in Cambridge to develop the system software there, while the team in Tübingen focused on processing data from the sensors.

Scout is Amazons autonomous driving electric car with six wheels that the company uses for the delivery of its products. The company deploys Scout at four locations in the United States. It is not known whether and when the online department store Scout in Europe wants to test.
