It is expected to work Amazon employees from the office at least three days a week starting May 1, according to CEO Andy Jassy, emails sent to employees posted on the company’s blog. Previously, it was up to individual teams to decide their policies within the office, according to theverge report.

Jassy says the company’s leadership team decided to change the policy after noticing it was easier to strengthen Amazon culture and collaborating on ideas and learning from others personally, he acknowledges that some roles will be some exceptions to the policy, such as some salespeople and customer support but “that will be a small minority”.

“It’s not easy to get several thousand employees back into our offices around the world, so we’re going to give the teams that need to do that work some time to come up with a plan,” says Jassy. “We know it won’t be ideal in the beginning, but the office experience will steadily improve over the coming months and years.

Ultimately it continues to evolve the way we want our offices to work and is set to capture the new ways we want to work.”

And by moving to a three-day-in-the-office structure, Amazon joins companies like Apple and Starbucks that have already done so. Walmart’s tech staff will need to come into the office twice a week, while Disney will need four days in the office starting in March.
