Amazon opened its first large grocery store in Seattle and, most surprising of all, without a single cashier. The establishment, named Amazon Go Grocery, is located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, right in the courtyard of Amazon’s corporate headquarters, CNBC reported.

The store has 10,400 square feet, and buyers can enter, scan a QR code from their Amazon app at the entrance, take all your purchases and simply leave the store when they are finished.

In the whole process, there is no need for you to interact with another person, although the store will have a group of employees who will be responsible for placing the products on the shelves and answering questions from buyers.

Here you can find a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as beef, pork, poultry and seafood. They will also offer local artisan breads, cheese and baked goods; a wide selection of beer, wines and spirits, as well as prepared meals and ready to heat and serve, according to the Amazon portal.

This technology – called Just Walk Out – is very similar to that used in cars without a driver, since it has computer vision and sensor fusion. What it specifically does is detect when a person takes or returns a product from the shelves and track the cart at all times.

In this way, when you leave the store, the store knows what it was that you took and charges for the purchase in your Amazon account.
