Amazing! What the Bulgarians did in Edirne

A tourist from Bulgaria can find an easier place to park his car in Edirne than a local. This is noted by the daily “Hurriyet”, having in mind the weekends, when thousands of Bulgarians rush to a big bargain shopping in the former capital of the Ottoman Empire.

“Those who come from Bulgaria know how to spend their money in Edirne, but it is worth noting how they manage with the parking lot for their cars. In order not to pay for parking, some are so resourceful and persistent that they reach the banks of the Maritsa River and then walk about 20 minutes to the market, “said a Edirne reporter.

Market traders said there was an increase in sales with the arrival of tourists from Bulgaria after the complete lifting of restrictions against Covid-19.

The citizens of the neighboring countries, who came to Edirne, mostly buy cheese, halva, souvenirs, clothes, baklava from the market. There are many who fill the tanks with fuel, due to the favorable prices in Turkey.

Bulgarians again prevailed in the shops in the center of Edirne. This weekend also coincides with the pre-holiday shopping of Muslims for the upcoming Eid al-Adha, which begins on Monday and will last for three days.

The mayor of Edirne addressed the Bulgarian guests of the city and the region. “Bulgarian tourists can always feel safe and secure in Edirne. In 2022 we will have a total of 168 events in the city, which are related to culture, sports and other activities. After the pandemic, we want to do a lot of things. There will be activities every 2-3 days. This will enable our neighbors from Bulgaria to visit Edirne not only for shopping tourism, “said Edirne Mayor Rejeb Gurkan.

“For years we have been visiting Bulgaria and supporting the country’s economy and tourism, and in the last 3 years Bulgarians have been doing this in our country and we highly appreciate this support. We have the most visits from Sofia, Plovdiv and Kardzhali, but also from all over Bulgaria, “added the mayor of Edirne.
