The Amancio Ortega Foundation will finance the future Residence for the Elderly of Pontevedra scheduled on Juan Carlos I street and six others in the main Galician cities. The foundation will donate 90 million euros to the Xunta de Galicia to build these residences. The vice president of the Amancio Ortega Foundation, Flora Marcote, signed this morning in Santiago with the president of the Xunta the collaboration agreement that will make possible the creation of 900 places in the Galician public system.

The seven centers will be located in Vigo, Pontevedra, A Coruña, Santiago, Ourense, Lugo and Ferrol and will have 150 Vigo and Coruña seats and 120 in the rest. The Foundation will be directly in charge of the construction to deliver them turnkey to the Xunta. It is planned that works begin during the first half of next year, once the Xunta has all the land.

The future residence of Pontevedra equipped with a psycho-geriatric unit that will have capacity for 120 people. The Ministry of Social Policy, is preparing the draft after the Council of Pontevedra ceded a plot of 3,600 square meters.

The event was also attended by the Executive Vice President of the Amancio Ortega Foundation, José Arnau, who stated that this donation “represents a qualitative leap” for the entity and has highlighted the importance of making “the greatest possible effort to improve the quality of life of the elderly.” The centers will be designed by the Galician studio Elsa Urquijo Arquitectos and will all have an area of ​​more than 45,000 square meters.
