Alzheimer Café Peelland on Tuesday 5 April

The meeting on March 8 showed that there is a need for the Alzheimer Café.

More than thirty interested parties from Deurne, Asten and Someren and a dozen volunteers provided a pleasantly filled Spiegelzaal in De Beiaard in Asten.

Discussion leader Hannie Derksen and psychologist Martine Veldman discussed the theme ‘Misunderstood behaviour’ before the break and questions from the audience were discussed after the break. All in all, a meeting as the Alzheimer Café is meant to be: gaining information from an expert and from each other, sharing experiences and, if possible, being referred directly to the right institution.

Theme April 5, 2022: From not feeling right to diagnosis, and then …

A period of suspicion and uncertainty comes to an end the day you learn that your loved one has dementia. For many people that is a relief and a blow at the same time: you know what is wrong, but you also know that there is no cure yet. Everyone deals with this differently, but the impact of dementia on life is significant for most people. And not only for people with dementia, but also for the partner, relatives and friends. How open are you about it? How do you tell those around you? How do you deal with your emotions?

Guests are Sonja Verstraeten and Mrs. Raaijmakers, doctors at the Maxima Medical Center.

Because several previously planned theme meetings were canceled due to corona, the annual program has been shifted. For example, the celebration of the fifth anniversary has been moved to December. The next meetings are Tuesday 3 May (theme: dementia and exercise) and Tuesday 7 June (theme: from home to nursing home).

Alzheimer Café Peelland is intended for people with dementia, their loved ones and interested parties from Asten, Deurne and Someren and is held on the first Tuesday of the month from 19.30 to 21.00 in Service Center De Beiaard, Pastoor de Kleijnhof 21 in Asten. Entry from 7 p.m.
