Former Brazilian captain Dani Alves no longer wants to play for Sao Paulo due to unpaid wages. The 38-year-old footballer returned to his homeland the year before last after 17 years in Europe, but after qualifying matches for the world championship he does not intend to continue playing for the club. “Dani Alves’ representatives have told us that the player will not return to the club unless the debts are settled,” said Sao Paulo sports director Carlos Belmonte.
Right defender Alves left for Europe in 2002 and first worked in Seville for six seasons. He spent his most successful period in Barcelona, where between 2008 and 2016 he won the Spanish League six times and the Champions League three times. He then played one season for Juventus and spent the last two years in Europe in Paris Saint-Germain. A month ago, he led the Brazilians to Olympic gold with a captain’s armband.
