Alta municipality threatens closure after contagion

The municipality writes on its websites that their biggest concern right now is that they know that many go for days, up to several weeks, with symptoms without getting tested.

– People are at school, work and other places with symptoms. This can not continue, writes the municipality.

They also write that if they do not get control of the infection, and new outbreaks of infection constantly appear, festivals and tournaments planned in Alta will also be canceled in the coming months. In the worst case, you can experience a closed Alta during the summer holidays.

– We have had conversations with FHI regarding our situation and their clear recommendation is that we must prepare not to participate in the national reopening part 3 which is planned for 17 June, the municipality writes.

– If there is another outbreak now in addition to the ones we have, we will have to introduce stricter measures , says mayor of Alta, Monica Nielsen (Labor) to NRK.

In total, the municipality has 22 people with active infection and 237 people in quarantine.

– We see that Alta can not participate in the reopening that Norway is facing now. We have to hold back more here until we have more overview and control, says Nielsen.
