Now the deal is dry: Bombardier is concentrating on the construction of aircraft for strategic reasons, according to a statement. The Canadians are therefore selling their rail division for almost 8 billion francs to the French TGV farmer and competitor Alstom.

The Canadians want to accelerate the deleveraging process. Bombardier has a huge hole in the box office: Canadians are short of CHF 10 billion. In 2019, the aircraft and train manufacturer was also deep in the red due to problems in the train business.

The train division is considered the most valuable part of the group, although it is struggling with operational difficulties. According to media reports, the order backlog is large at $ 35 billion, but many orders are not very profitable.

The CHF 1.9 billion SBB order for 62 double-decker FV-Dosto should have paid off, however. Even if Bombardier has to retrofit the compositions known as breakdown trains. The Canadian train builder’s double-decker, delivered six years late, shook about twice as much as the old one. Deutsche Bahn and Bombardier are still struggling with software problems and technical upgrades. (Pfu)
