UTRECHT/RHENEN – For the time being, there are no trains running between Utrecht and Arnhem. They have not been driving all day because of the shortage of traffic controllers, but now the track also has to be repaired first.
One of the rails is broken and the repair work is not ready for tomorrow afternoon. After that, you can only drive on one track for a long time. ProRail expects that no trains will run between Utrecht and Arnhem and Utrecht and Rhenen until at least 3 p.m. Ongoing travelers have to make a detour via Den Bosch.
In addition, there are still too few air traffic controllers available. As a result, there are also restrictions on the Barneveld – Ede route.
Today there were no trains on the routes Utrecht – Arnhem, Maarn – Rhenen and Barneveld Centrum – Ede-Wageningen from 2.30 pm due to a shortage of traffic controllers. Past Tuesday as a result, no trains were running between Utrecht and Arnhem in the morning rush hour.
Shortage of employees
ProRail has been struggling with a major staff shortage in that department for months. A single cancellation of a sick employee, as is the case today, quickly leads to gaps in the workforce. And without a traffic controller on a route, there are no trains.
Last week, ProRail promised extra money for air traffic controllers because they have been struggling with enormous work pressure for months. Some employees are asked to return from vacation early, or they are unable to take a break during their shifts.
