Alpine skiing: Viktoria Rebensburg falls in Garmisch-Partenkirchen near Sutter-Sieg

Viktoria Rebensburg crashed the day after her downhill victory at the Home World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The 30-year-old fell after about half a minute’s drive on the icy steep slope in the “Hell” section and landed on the net at the edge of the race track.

“It was a violent impact,” she said on ARD, “but it’s all okay, luckily.” Only her left knee hurt because she had taken a directional gate with her. In order to completely rule out a serious injury, she went to a hospital for an MRI scan during the race. “It was smoother to drive than yesterday. You have to ski technically well,” continues Rebensburg.

Downhill Olympic champion Sofia Goggia also crashed at high speed. The Italian injured her left arm, which had to be bandaged and splinted. Corinne Suter won. The Swiss referred Nicole Schmidhofer from Austria (+0.43 seconds) and her compatriot Wendy Holdener (+0.70) to the other podium places.
