Scuderia AlphaTauri F1 team principal Franz Tost has called for Yuki Tsunoda to improve in all areas for the 2023 F1 season, now that he is somewhat settled in driving.
Franz Tost admits the 2022 season hasn’t been easy for Yuki Tsunoda, but says he has been able to keep his temper in check compared to his rookie season in 2021.
In his first year, Yuki Tsunoda became famous for his frequent outbursts over the radio, taking out his frustration on the machines and the drivers around him. He was able to contain the brunt of his anger last season, but Franz Tost expects him to go one step further this season.
“He’s grown up a lot,” Franz Tost told GPFans.
“It’s not been an easy season for him as it always depends on the performance of the car. But I have to say he made a lot of progress especially in the last few races. Qualifying was pretty strong as well.”
Regarding Yuki Tsunoda’s improved temperament in particular, Franz Tost added: “He learned. There was very little bad or emotional communication on the radio.”

Franz Tost now wants Yuki Tsunoda to continue his all-around progress and improve on all fronts.
“Mechanical, aerodynamic and tire management during the race has improved a bit,” said Franz Tost.
“And he needs to focus more on F1 and be prepared for everything. It’s all different areas and everything is a little bit more.”
