Alpes-Maritimes police chief removed from office, announces Christophe Castaner

The Minister of the Interior announced it during the greeting ceremony of the Unsa police union.

The departmental director of public security of the Alpes-Maritimes is removed from his functions, Interior Minister Christophe Castaner announced Wednesday, January 8, at the ceremony of the wishes of the police union Unsa, indicates the reporters of franceinfo and France Inter on site.

At the end of his speech, the Minister turned to the Director General of the National Police and said: “I accepted your proposal to dismiss the Alpes-Maritimes DDSP from office”.

Jean-François Illy was in office in the department since February 2019.
Sources close to the Interior Ministry evoke suspicions of embezzlement in his previous post in Strasbourg, a file for which Jean-François Illy is the subject of an IGPN administrative investigation. He was DDSP of Bas-Rhin between 2012 and 2019.
