Alosno: the land where you eat good food, live well and sing better | Radio Huelva | Present

The Route of the Essentials this week has landed in Alosno. A town in the Huelva province where all the art of flamenco singing is concentrated. In Alosno the legend of the fandango of Huelva was born. In Alosno, he grew up and was trained from counter to counter and from tablao to tablao, he is the man who best sang the fandango of Huelva. He came to create his own style, so much so that the Baptist teacher says: that “Outside of Huelva, people don’t sing for fandango, they sing for Toronjo“.

Alosno with almost 4,000 inhabitants it is still a traditional town with whitewashed houses and tiled roofs. A town in which the doors are still wide open, with cattail chairs and flowerpots on the facades. It is located in the center of the province of Huelva, about 45 kilometers from the capital, anchored in the Western Andévalo Region.

Alosno is white, bright and also the cradle of ancient traditions. It has a mining past and a heritage that is lost in time and that dates back to the times of the Phoenicians and Romans. Alosno was born in the area of ”El Portichuelo” But they had to change location because the mining activity in the area damaged the water for consumption. For this reason, Alosno, resurfaced in another space called “Dehesa de Alosno” about 180 meters above sea level.

Alosno venerates Saint John the Baptist with its traditional dance of the bells and celebrates its beautiful May Crosses, which will surely revive in all its splendor when this pandemic passes.

The Route of the Essentials is pleased to stop at the most important Iberian pig derivatives company in the region: Union Alosnera from the town of Alosno. A place where many guests have passed, such as his Alcalde Juan Capela, teacher Don Santiago Osorno, Antonio Ramón from the prestigious Restaurant “El Cerrojo” and the artists Antonio Rastrojo on cante and Ramón Jesús on toque.
