Almost forgotten Drop. The first aerodynamic car made in Czechoslovakia celebrates 90 years

The car was built on the chassis of the Wikov 35 series. It was a two-door four-seater car with a Tudor body and a classic engine concept at the front with rear-wheel drive, thanks to its pointed front it resembled a submarine or torpedo.

Under the hood was placed a four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 1743 cm3 with an output of 26 kW (35 hp). The car was equipped with a mechanical three-speed transmission. Although Wikov was ahead of the era of aerodynamic Tatra trucks, he was not very successful. According to the press, about three Drops were made.

In the early 1930s, the car was available for approximately 75,000 crowns, which was the most of the brand’s entire portfolio. However, the reason for the failure was also probably that the maximum speed was only slightly higher than the standard Wikov 35 model, which reached speeds of 95-100 km / h. The drop managed 105 km / h. The high weight, which was increased by the aerodynamic body, also had an effect.

The first mass-produced Wikov car was the Wikov 7/28 model from 1925. The Prostějov company produced cars until 1939, during its existence it produced only about 800 cars and a hundred trucks.

After the Second World War, the factory was nationalized and renamed Agrostroj Prostějov. At present, it belongs to the Wikov Industry group and focuses mainly on the production of mechanical gearboxes and gears.
