Almost 300 thousand people lost their power in New York during the strong winds – Telemundo New York (47)

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul updated Sunday on the state’s response to the winds that hit most of the region Saturday night and left nearly 300,000 people without power at the height of the event.

Some locations, including the City of Dunkirk, Niagara Falls Airport, and the City of Buffalo, experienced winds of more than 70 mph during the storm. Nearly 10,000 state and out-of-state utility crews continued Sunday to restore the remaining 97,000 customers who still do not have power.

Governor Hochul deployed state emergency response resources Saturday when high wind warnings were issued for counties in western New York, Finger Lakes and North Country. The Democrat also announced the mobilization of internal, contractual and external resources from state public services, and mutual assistance in response to the effects of the weekend’s meteorological event.
